StRUT Background

Students Recycling Used Technology, StRUT, is a program incorporated into schools where students take donated computers and computer components and upgrade them for the use in schools. Students involved in StRUT evaluate, repair and refurbish donated computers and in turn donate those computers to local schools. Students gain valuable skills and schools get free computers.

Intel Corporation and the Northwest Regional Education Service District founded StRUT 1995, in Oregon and continues to support it at many levels. Intel has gone on to found StRUT programs in all of the States where the company has facilities, and continues to support StRUT in many critical ways.

Current StRUT and StRUT like programs: Arizona, California, Louisiana, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon and Texas.
The Silicon Valley StRUT is one of 3 in California. The other two in California are Folsom and Los Angeles.
